pain’s second largest city and the capital of Catalonia is picturesque city rich in historic architectural wonders that leave any tourist amazed by its beauty. The city of Barcelona is a tourist haven where you can experience life in the city and relax at the beach after. There is so much to see and things to do whilst in this magnificent Mediterranean city.

Travelling to Barcelona


To get to Barcelona is to pass through El Prat or the Barcelona International Airport which is ten kilometres away from the city. From the airport you can take a taxi or take the RENFE train which stops at different areas of the city. You can also take the Aerobus that depart every six to nine minutes or the Nit Bus if you’re travelling by night.


Before you leave the airport make sure to exchange your money to Euros, which is Spain’s form of currency.

Barcelona makes it easy for its tourists to get around. The best way to see the city’s sights is through the Bus Turistic which links you to all of Barcelona’s city attractions. Or you can take the metro which takes you anywhere in the city and is easy to follow. If you plan to go around a lot, do get yourself a Barcelona Card which features unlimited travel using public transport, discounts on participating establishments. Barcelona Cards come in variations of two to five days validity.

Some fun ways to travel around Barcelona are through the Tramvia Blau and the Funicular. Biking is also a great way to go around Barcelona and take in the sights, especially with the availability of bike rental shops and bike tours.

The best place to experience Barcelona is La Rambla which means ‘dry flowers’ in Arabic. La Rambla used to be the only place in Barcelona to buy fresh flowers but now it is a lively area filled with tourists, pet and flower stalls and the frequent appearance of street performers that surprise visitors of the city.

A lot of the city’s beautiful architecture is thanks to the famous modernist architect Gaudi and some of his famous works are the Parc Gruell, Casa Mila, Sagrada Familia and La Casa Batllo. You can visit his works by joining the Ruta del Modernisme walking tour which takes you around the city.

For a day of relaxation, it’s best to head to Barceloneta which is the closest beach from the city. Aside from going for a swim or getting a tan, you can windsurf or kite surf at the beach. Or you can simply enjoy a refreshing drink or a taste of some of the Mediterranean foods offered at the many beach huts and restaurants around the area.

An interesting fact is Barcelona is known have more bars and cafes per capita than anywhere else in the world. You can take your pick from tapas bars to outdoor cafes and even chocolaterias. Frequented bars in the city are Maumau in Calle Fontrodona and Dow Jones in Carrec Bruc 97. The club scene is very much alive in the city and some of the most popular ones are Sutton in Diagonal and La Paloma in Tigre 27.

Hi ,Barcelona is a fantastic city but lately is considered by the international press a broad minded city region. It is a pity that the image of barcelona has been deteriorated because as far as I’m concerned Barcelona is very cosmopolitan due to the cultural diversity which gives them great wealth.
